There were some tough guys who played villain’s henchman and minor roles in old movies. They were known for their intimidating muscular bodies and look who would indulge in fight scenes with heroes. They were twice the size of their opponent heroes but were get beaten by them as per the movie  script. Some of the names if you remember are Ram Shetty, Bob Christo, Manik Irani aka Billa, Mahesh Anand, Gavin Packard and Mukesh Rishi etc. The last actor is still acting in movies.Here are their pictures . There was one actor who also played goons but the poor fellow was left unrecognized and vanished into thin air. Do you remember this guy from the 1990’s action movies?  Do you remember his name? A Few Unknown facts about "Sholay"

The rise of western genre in Bollywood 
"Sholay"(1975)  is one of the earliest films which had the Western genre . Apparently it was inspired from Hollywood movies like "The Magnificent Seven" (1960)  & Japanese movie "Seven Samurai"(1954).
 Initially, it received negative critical reviews and a tepid commercial response, but favorable word-of-mouth publicity helped it to become a box office success. It broke records for continuous showings in many theatres across India, and ran for more than five years at Mumbai's Minerva theatre‘Sholay’ was also about two gunslingers fending off the village against bandits and Sergio Leone’s film had pretty much the same rub as well. 
As I've already said  ‘Sholay’ was inspired by  many  classic Western film. The main plot is about mercenaries defending a village against bandits who raid it for provisions- it is also inspired from some cowboys movies of actor Client Eastwood.
Unknown facts about Sholay .
     1. The song “Yeh Dosti” took 21 days to shoot; the scene where Jaya’s character Radha lights a lamp took 20 days to shoot.
2. It took 40 retakes before the scene featuring the line “kitne aadmi they” was finalised.
3. Amitabh Bachchan married Jaya Bhaduri 4 months before shooting for Sholay started.Jaya was expecting their first child Shweta .
4.The town called Ramanagara, about 50 kms from Bangalore is still referred to as Ramgarh because Sholay was shot there

5 .In 1999, BBC India called Sholay the Film of the Millennium. It also topped the all-time poll of the best Indian films conducted by the British Film Institute.
6. Thakur's character was originally supposed to be a retired army officer.
7.There was actually a dacoit named Gabbar Singh around Gwalior in the 1950's.
8.During the shooting of the film, Dharmendra would pay the light boys to spoil his scenes with Hema Malini so retakes would be required.
9. Mac Mohan's character, Sambha had only one line in the film, but he is still referred to as Sambha.
10.The Censor Board asked its makers to re-shoot the ending and several scenes because they were thought to be "extremely violent". Its original ending showed Gabbar being killed by Thakur. 
11 . Sholay was film of many firsts: the first Hindi film made in 70 mm and the first to be made with stereophonic sound.
