There were some tough guys who played villain’s henchman and minor roles in old movies. They were known for their intimidating muscular bodies and look who would indulge in fight scenes with heroes. They were twice the size of their opponent heroes but were get beaten by them as per the movie  script. Some of the names if you remember are Ram Shetty, Bob Christo, Manik Irani aka Billa, Mahesh Anand, Gavin Packard and Mukesh Rishi etc. The last actor is still acting in movies.Here are their pictures . Some lesser facts about veteran actor Late Vinod Khanna

Vinod Khanna was born in Peshawar, in a Punjabi family, present-day in Pakistan. Later he & his family moved to Mumbai.

His father Kishanchand Khanna ran a business in textiles, dyes and chemicals. Vinod Khanna himself is a commerce graduate from Sydenham College, Delhi.

Vinod Khanna made his debut as a villain in Sunil Dutt’s Man Ka Meet in 1968.

He is one of the few actors who began his career by playing negative roles. In movie Mera Gaon Mera Desh he played a ruthless dacoit opposite to Dharamendra.

Because of his good looks and acting skills he started getting hero roles .
His first leading role was in Gulzar’s Mere Apne with Shatrughan Sinha & Meena Kumari.

 Amitabh Bachchan’s Coolie incident  is popular but only few know about Vinod Khanna’s injury on the set of Muqaddar Ka Sikandar .As  per script , Bachchan  was supposed to throw a glass at Khanna and the latter was supposed to hold it. After rehearsing the scenes, in the take Bachchan threw the glass little quickly which hit Khanna’s chin . He got 4 stiches .

He gave many hits like Maha badmaash , Dayavan , Qurbani , Amar Akbar Anthony, Achanak  etc .At one point of his career he was so popular that he was considered to give competition to then superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

In 1982, Khanna took a break from film industry & decided to become a follower of guru Rajneesh Osho .

He stayed & worked in Rajneeshpuram in US for 5 years. He served as his gardener & washed plates.
His fans would call him sexy sanyasi(monk) .

In 1987, Khanna made a comeback to bollywood with movie Insaaf  opposite to Dimple Kapadia.

 In the late 90’s , he joined the BJP & was a member of Lok Sabha in  Punjab.

In the second half of his movie career , he again played negative roles as well as character roles.
He worked with Salman Khan in Dabangg & Dabangg 2.

His last movie “Dilwale” where  he played father of Shah Rukh Khan & Varun Dhawan .

He has also won Zee Cine Award for Lifetime Achievement. Vinod has won five Filmfare awards in his long movie career .

He demised on 27th April, 2017 around 11:20 am at HN Reliance Hospital in Mumbai. He is survived by his three sons , a daughter his first & second wife Geetanjali &  Kavita respectively  .

A Few Unknown facts about "Sholay"

The rise of western genre in Bollywood  "Sholay"(1975)  is one of the earliest films which had the Western genre . Apparently it was inspired from Hollywood movies like "The Magnificent Seven" (1960)  & Japanese movie "Seven Samurai"(1954).  Initially, it received negative critical reviews and a tepid commercial response, but favorable word-of-mouth publicity helped it to become a box office success. It broke records for continuous showings in many theatres across India, and ran for more than   five years   at Mumbai's Minerva theatre .  ‘Sholay’ was also about two gunslingers fending off the village against bandits and Sergio Leone’s film had pretty much the same rub as well.  As I've already said  ‘Sholay’ was inspired by  many  classic Western film.
